Kia ora and welcome to the
Matariki Charter School Library Blog.
We are a new school which
opened in March 2013, we are one of the first charter schools to open in New
Zealand this year. Our school has students
from Year 0 to 13. We are a co-ed school with around 400 students. You will find us at 69 Richmen Road
Gladstone, Wairarapa surrounded by farms, vineyards and clean country air.
Our library collection is
large and spans all school years. The collection of 25,000 items includes
e-books, playaways and 26 magazine titles.
Electronic library resources include 35 Kobo e-readers, 25 Ipads and a
suite of 28 computers. The Library is
well staffed during the school day with a full-time teacher librarian and two
full-time librarians.
We are a fairly unique
library as we also extend our services to the community. The library is open to the public from 11.00
am to 6.00 pm weekdays and 10.00 am to 3.00 pm on Saturday’s. Each weekday between 3.30 pm and 6.00 pm
there is a junior and senior teacher available to help students from any school
with their homework. These services allow the rest of the community to benefit
from our collection as well as the use of the internet and computers.
